Below are some details about my hardware.

Mike has me running on an Asus P/I P55T2P4 motherboard.

  • You can't praise my motherboard enough: rock stable,
  • It's an excellent pick to run Linux on a Socket 7 cpu.
  • Mike used the excellent page by Kalle to overclock the cpu slightly
  • A marginal memory stick (?) keeps me from pushing the cpu up to 400 MHz, and the system bus over 66 MHz.

an AMD K3-333 MHz cpu

256 Mb EDO ram, three Maxtor IDE drives

and a Matrox Millennium II 4 Mb video card.

Hints and helps on overclocking and cool mods.

running Mandrake Linux 8.1 with upgrades from the cooker.

  • What is a distribution? Where do I find them?
  • Where do I go to start looking into Linux?
  • How to pick a distribution?
  • What is the 'best' distribution for a newbie?

dreaming of a new machine.
